Fun at home date ideas

Jan 26, 2023

Ways to have date night at home!

A couple are sitting on their couch looking at a pizza and box of popcorn on their coffee table. They are both wearing earth-toned sweaters.

Making time for date night can sometimes get lost in the rush of life and with prices rising across the board, it’s not always easy to have a night out with your loved one. But that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! Finding the pockets of joy within our own homes can open themselves up to a really great date both during the day and at night.

Being in the comforts of your own home and on a date at the same time can strengthen your bond with your partner and help you feel more appreciative of the space you share with them.

We have compiled a list of fun at home date ideas for you to try, enjoy and save some money in the process!

Movie Night

No one wants to spend hours scrolling through Netflix or the DVD collection when on a date! Pick the movie ahead of time so that you don’t spend half the time trying to decide on what to watch. Whether it’s a movie that means a lot to you both, or one you have never seen before, set the scene with cozy lighting, warm blankets and lots of snacks! You could even make your own popcorn too for the full cinema experience!

Build a fort

Building forts as a kid was a great way to spend a weekend, and what better way to share the experience than with your partner! It’s fun, exciting and you can put your imagination to the test with the structure and design. Get creative and use tables, chairs, clothes rails and blankets; maybe even bring your mattress into it! Build a cozy den and spend the weekend talking, laughing and sharing memories.

Play a board game

Board games for some can be a no go, especially if one or both of you is super competitive! But they can also bring a lot of joy and laughter, giving you the opportunity to work as a team to figure out the puzzle.

Write a list of questions to ask each other

You may already know everything there is to know about your partner, but people can change over time as likes and interests shift as we grow. Writing a list of fun, random questions to ask each other things that you have never talked about or really thought of before can be a hilarious, bond strengthening date idea. Check in with each other and get to know one another more intimately again; you might be surprised by what you learn!

Turn your dining room/kitchen into a restaurant

Set the table and pretend you are at a restaurant! Light some candles, put out the nice tableware, even make a menu of your meal just to add that extra detail! You could cook together, or have one cook while the other prepares the table and sets up the music. Throw on a nice outfit and you’re good to go!

Plan a vacation together

Is there anything better than seeing the world with your best friend? Take some time to plan a vacation together for a well earned rest. Whether it’s a city break, staycation or a trip to the other side of the world, make it fun by drinking cocktails and having your favorite food while you whip up your dreams and make them a reality!

There you have it, a selection of at home date ideas that can be pulled together easily and still be a great time!
