Fall into Cozy Comfort: Your Guide to Fall Home Decor

Oct 31, 2023

Fall is here, it's time to get cozy!

We’re well and truly in full swing fall now and many people enjoy updating their homes to embrace the cozy and warm atmosphere of the fall season! For many, fall is a nostalgic time, brought about with warm, rich scents and colors that transport us to past memories, lived or not. This blog post features a list of ways you can transform your home into a cozy and inviting space.

1. Choosing a Fall Color Palette

The colors of fall usually centre around a palette of warm browns, deep reds, and earthy greens. However, this may not be to everyone’s taste, so you can deviate from this. Maybe you prefer more neutral, cooler tones? If so, that is fine! Most stores carry fall decor in a variety of colors to suit a wide preference. Burnt orange/rust is also a beautiful colour for fall, but equally a lighter peach tone would work too!

2. Fall-Themed Decor Elements

Adding cozy touches such as throw pillows and blankets that have a fall-theme can really bring out the season whether it’s on your couch or bed! If you have more of a minimalist style as a room backdrop, textiles with patterns on would be a fun way to liven up the space, and vice versa. Sometimes less is more!

If you wanted to go whole hog, fall-themed curtains are perfect for bringing some seasonal warmth into a room. Additionally, considering different textures when searching for fall decor is important; look for plaid, flannel, and faux fur for added coziness. You could also incorporate some nature in your decor, such as branches, dried leaves or pinecones.

3. Create a Welcoming Entryway

Creating a welcoming fall-themed entryway is a wonderful way to set the tone for the season and greet guests with warmth and style. Decorate the door with a wreath adorned with fall foliage such as pinecones, berries, dried out orange slices and cinnamon sticks. Place a fall-themed welcome mat at the entrance for people to step on.

Line the entryway with a variety of pumpkins and gourds. Mix and match sizes and colors to create visual interest. You can also paint or decorate some pumpkins for a unique touch. When the season comes to an end, the pumpkins can be placed in local forests for wildlife to enjoy! To finish off the look, you could add outdoor fairy lights, lanterns, rustic wooden signs, or seasonal garlands to bring everything together.

4. Fall Table Centerpieces

Creating a fall centerpiece is a delightful way to add a touch of autumn to your dining table, coffee table, or any other focal point in your home. Here's a list of what you will need:

  • A decorative container (e.g., a vase, wooden box, or basket)
  • Floral foam or a block of dry floral foam
  • Fall foliage, such as branches, leaves, or twigs
  • Fall flowers (e.g., sunflowers, mums, or daisies)
  • Gourds or mini pumpkins
  • Candles (optional)
  • Scissors or floral shears
  • Ribbon or twine (optional)

5. Seasonal Wall Decor

Swapping out photos and prints that capture the season are a wonderful way to bring subtle theming to your home. Many fall related prints focus on natural elements such as fungi or the changing leaves in popular destinations. Wall decor is a great way to go if you don’t want to spend on other types of decor, and it’s easily removed and stored away after the season.

6. Lighting and Candles

Cozy lighting is the way to go during fall and winter; warm-toned bulbs and candles create such a snug atmosphere that you won’t want to leave your house! Strings of fairy lights are a good alternative to candles and can even be wrapped around the whole room if you feel like it! It is safe to say that warm lighting will bring everything together perfectly.

7. DIY Fall Decor Projects

Making your own DIY decor is a great way to save money and be more intentional with how you are decorating your space. You could make a wreath, paper garlands, knitted blankets, cushion covers and more. The possibilities are endless when it comes to DIY, believe in yourself and see what you can create!

Decorating for fall is completely optional, but it can really add to the season! We hope this blog post has been helpful and inspiring.
