Best Foliage Houseplants

Jun 17, 2022

Are you craving some greenery to brighten up your home? You’ll love these houseplants!

Whether you are looking for a petite plant to go with your air plant, or a statement plant to add to your purifying houseplants, we put together the best foliage tropical plants for indoor spaces.

Rex Begonia

Indoor begonias are available in a wide variety of dazzling green, red, purple, and even silver foliage. These beautiful and dramatic plants are slow growing so they are perfect for nooks and smaller spaces. They grow best in part shade to full shade locations. Try not to let the soil dry out between waterings.

Cordyline

Cordyline, or Ti Plant, makes an eye-catching foliage houseplant. The colourful, two-toned leaves shoot up horizontally from a centre stalk. Some varieties are green and pink, while others are green and yellow. They grow best in bright, indirect sunlight and need well-draining soil.

Inch Plant

The inch plant is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a fast-growing houseplant with trailing stems. It has an olive and silver leaf with purple/maroon underneath. Some varieties even have purple on both sides. With enough light, plants will flower pink flowers. Allow the surface to dry between each watering and place in an area with medium to bright light.

Dracaena

Dracaena is a large group of tropical plants that are low maintenance and ideal for indirect sunny locations. The tall, spikey foliage is often green or variegated. Don’t let them dry out between watering.

Parlor Palm

If you’re seeking the luxury of a palm, but live in a smaller space, choose a Parlor Palm. They tolerate low light and low humidity. Ideal for spots that have morning or indirect sunlight - too much sun can burn the tips. Keep soil evenly moist for the best results.

Fern

There are so many times of ferns to choose from for indoor gardens. They add a lush look to any style of the room and come in a wide array of colours and textures. Some of the most popular types are crispy wave fern, asparagus fern, staghorn fern, maidenhair fern and silver brake fern. Ferns do require consistent humidity and moist soil so be sure to keep an eye on them. They are ideal for locations with medium to bright light.
